Supporting First Nations Communities
Job Skills Training Academy acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we operate and their continuing connection to the land, waters, and community. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First Peoples of this country, with the oldest continuing cultures in the world, and that this land was never ceded. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never surrendered.
We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to their diverse cultures, knowledge systems, and ways of caring for Country, and to Elders both past and present, recognising the role Elders continue to play in guiding and strengthening their communities today. We also extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, students, and visitors who are part of our organisation now or in the future.
This Acknowledgement is not a one-off statement for us, but a starting point for the ongoing work of building a training environment where First Nations people feel genuinely respected and supported.
Why this Matters
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are under-represented in the aged care and disability workforce relative to community need. Growing the number of First Nations support workers can help build a workforce that better reflects and understands the communities it serves. For Job Skills Training Academy, this means training more First Nations people isn’t just about filling gaps, it’s about creating real career pathways into aged care and disability roles.
