Training Location
Unit 2/22 Winton Rd, Joondalup WA 6027. The venue is only a 10-minute walk from Joondalup Train Station, and very conveniently located close to Mitchell Freeway – Hodges Drive Exit. There is ample parking on site.
Delivery & Duration
This course is delivered in a classroom environment through a combination of face-to-face (at the venue) as well as virtual mode. The duration of classroom delivery is approximately 9 weeks. Work experience placement of 120 hours (3 weeks) is in addition to this, which will be organised by JSTA and advised to you towards the end of your classroom training. Classes will be held 4 days a week (Mon – Thurs) from 9am – 4.30pm. We have a rolling intake which allows you to start the course almost anytime. Students are able to take up to 12 months to complete their qualification. If there are any changes you need to make, please talk to our admin team.
Enrolment Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this course. Although, you are required to have proficiency in Language, Literacy, and Numeracy to a minimum of ACSF level 3. This is assessed via an LLN test, which is completed on site prior to enrolment. The test normally takes 15–20 minutes to complete. Once you have scored a suitable result, you are required to fill in the Enrolment Form. You must have a USI (Unique Student Identifier) number to complete any Nationally Recognised Training.
Students are also required to provide the documents below for us to arrange their Work Placement:
- National Police Clearance
- Working with Children Check
- Updated Immunisation Record with all COVID as well as flu vaccinations.
- NDIS Screening check (This is a requirement from aged care facilities even if you are only doing the ageing stream).
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Hand Hygiene Certificate
- NDIS Orientation module
- Infection Control Certificate
- Working with Children Check
Students will not be able to commence their Work Placement until all the required documents are provided at least 3–4 weeks prior to the placement commencement date. Please feel free to speak to our admin team if you require more information.
Enrolment Eligibility
All applications will be assessed by the JSTA admin team on a case-by-case basis. Students are required to submit valid photo identification, proof of citizenship, residency, or visa status, and complete a student enrolment form.
Fee for Service Pricing
Students are required to pay a course fee of $2,330. A $1,200 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a place of study. The balance of the tuition fee can be paid via a payment plan, but the full course fee must be settled before commencing the Work Placement.
Course Units
To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 15 units. The package consists of 8 core units and 7 elective units, as listed below:
Core:

- HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
- HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
- HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
- BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
- BSBWOR301 Organise personal work priorities and development
Elective:
- CHCCCS002 Assist with movement
- CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
- CHCCCS026 Transport individuals
- HLTAIN001 Assist with nursing care in an acute care environment
- HLTAIN002 Provide non-client contact support in an acute care environment
- CHCCCS010 Maintain a high standard of service
- HLTHPS006 Assist clients with medication
- CHCCCS032 Provide basic foot care
Each unit of competency contains assessments that occur throughout the training period, both in the classroom and the workplace. Your trainer will discuss with you when you are ready for the assessment and ensure you have been provided with adequate training beforehand. Knowledge (written) assessments are used to identify areas where you may need further guidance and information prior to attending work experience. Extensions to the assessment arrangements are at the discretion of Job Skills Training Academy and considered on an individual basis. If you feel you require an extension, please discuss this with your trainer/assessor, who will be happy to make arrangements to provide the additional support you might need.
Work Placement
To achieve this qualification, students must complete 120 hours of work placement in an Aged Care facility, subject to the mandatory conditions outlined in the Assessment Requirements of the Units of Competency. Students will commence their work placement once all classroom training has been attended and concluded.
